BTW, I'm a published author now.

Apparently my article in the Peabody Journal of Education appeared in the October 2009 issue. Unfortunately, I do not GET the PJE, so I have only seen it in PDF. (Do you know how much that sucks even for a paper-hater like me?) It seriously sucks not to have the actual journal to show my parents and to hold in my hands. Seriously.

Curtains

The Ring Dring Ranch has a lot of windows. Our bedroom has a 60" window that faces north, two 48" windows that face east and a 48" window that faces south. I haven't bought curtains in a number of years, and had no understanding that most are priced by panel, not by window. So that mean there were at least 8 panels for the bedroom, and since I wanted the north facing larger window to have plenty of coverage, I used 4 panels for that window. Man, did I score a deal. I found 84" long (floor length) curtain panels at Bed Bath and Beyond on sale for $5. Not including the rods, I spent $50 on curtains for the master bedroom.
While I was there, I picked up some pretty curtains for the guest bedroom. That room has a 60" window facing north as well. So the curtains for the guest room cost $20. I wasn't actually looking for curtains for the guest room, but couldn't pass up such a great deal on perfect window treatments. What I was looking for was curtains for two 70" wide windows downstairs. We aren't ready to do anything with the basement really, but the curtains that were down there are visible as folks walk up to the door. They had begun to disintegrate and were stained. So, new curtains were in order and have been hung. They were a deal too! $26 covered the two windows!
Our truck is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. The house still has a lot to be done before I'll be ready to move our furniture in, but it seems like ready or not here it comes!

Cinco de Mayo

We arrived at the Ring Dring Ranch last night around 8:30PM and had Jet's Pizza as we had planned for months!

The cat and dog traveled extremely well.

Today, I went to Petsmart and bought things to spoil the cat as her reward for being such a perfect traveler. I bought her a kitty condo. It's a bit like this one, only a level smaller.

I also bought a wireless router, so we're back in the land of Facebook. I just bought wireless G since it was $40 cheaper than N. Other purchases included a membership to Sam's, a microwave, dog food, a toilet seat to replace the splintery wooden one, and new door locks for every door in the house. It seems that there has been a series of items making their way out of the house since Grandpa Dring passed. A snow blower, a big table type saw, a little vacuum cleaner I bought in December, and a half a case of Catawba wine we bought in December have managed to walk away since Bill left. Hopefully all of the door knobs will be replaced tomorrow.

The mattress we bought from Overstock has already arrived and we look forward to it being on our bed. The furniture should arrive this week, so we need to get the house cleaned out to make room! For now, I'm heading to the mattress on the floor.
